This album is a mess, and not in an endearing way like The Life of Pablo was. And at least that album sounded cohesive. This was easily their weakest album since Sounding the Seventh Trumpet. A solo doesn't have to be slow and melodic for me to think it's great, but it's easy for me to tell when the artist really made an effort into putting emotion into it. A lot more feel in the playing rather than just playing crazily.
The solo is an example of a solo that's better than Afterlife's for me. I feel like sonically this would have fit much better on the second half of Nightmare but with the concept of that record it wouldn't have fit at all. The bridge is quite pleasant and the layered guitars were very well done.
The only thing I never really cared for was the elongated "I" on the chorus to make up for a syllable that didn't quite fit the melody. I love the pedalsteel and how it sits on top of the acoustic guitars. I think they hit the nose on the head with how they said what they wanted to say. This actually isn't a bad country rock song, I'd even argue it's quite good.
